Project overview

Design shaped around the project brief and real delivery requirements.

Advanced laboratory planning supporting scientific performance, safety, workflow clarity and innovation.

The project integrates technical laboratory requirements with efficient adjacencies, robust finishes and carefully coordinated building services.

01 · The brief

A laboratory is an operational system before it is an interior

Laboratory environments depend on workflow, equipment, services, safety and maintainability. The 54gene project is presented around scientific performance, controlled workflows and technical coordination rather than treating the laboratory as a conventional office fit-out.

Curzey's published scope includes specialist laboratory planning, interior design and technical coordination. That combination is central to resolving adjacencies, service requirements and durable interior systems in one coordinated design process.

02 · Design response

Workflow and technical coordination drive the interior planning

The design response brings together controlled workflows, technical services, robust finishes and flexible laboratory benching. The planning logic is intended to support the scientific activity while giving equipment, people and building services clear relationships.

  • Specialist laboratory planning
  • Scientific workflow and adjacency studies
  • Technical-services coordination
  • Durable interior finishes
  • Flexible laboratory benching and support spaces

03 · What this demonstrates

Specialist interiors need sector knowledge early in the brief

Laboratory projects become harder and more expensive to correct when equipment, utilities, workflow and room requirements are discovered late. Early specialist planning gives the project team a better basis for architecture, MEP coordination, budgeting and procurement.
